Happy 13th Birthday Ashlyn!!!


Tonight we celebrated Ashlyn's birthday for the very last time without her. This time last year we were celebrating too. We had just received PA on the 17th, which was already the 18th in China. I remember opening up my email and seeing the "congratulations!" and I burst into tears; overwhelmed by God's goodness towards us. Then late that evening I received an email from a family who had just brought home a 13 year old girl from China. They were having such a hard time and it scared us to death. We were not at all prepared for the things that typically come with older child adoptions. We had no idea what we were getting into. We just felt God leading us toward this young girl so we decided to proceed in faith that God would show us the way. Well, as you may know, we took some time to pray and we did not have peace at that point to continue, so we backed out. I was especially devastated, but oddly relieved at the same time. But as time went on and I started learning more and more and advocating for her, I began to wonder if it was really over. When people would contact me wanting to know more about her, I felt so protective of her. I wanted so badly to know the family who would commit to her so that I might get the chance to meet her one day, or at least know how her life was turning out. Deep down in my heart I knew that she was ours.

Hopefully she got her cake, and hopefully they took some pictures to send us, and HOPEFULLY we will hear back from her soon. That would just be so amazing!

    The San Filippo's wish Ashlyn a very Happy Birthday and hope she has received your love! We certainly hope WanZhou SWI will return pictures so we can see her too ;-)

    Phil, when Meilani was there, did y'all send her a cake and if so, did they take pics to send you?

      No but we sent a few toys and such along with a disposable camera and we received pics with it through our agency. How did you coordinate sending a cake??
