Socks...

Remember April, the cute little Yorkie that we were trying on for size? Well, it turned out that Miss April wasn't fixed and she was having her "time of the month" while she was here with us. Which isn't the end of the world except that a very bossy (male) Maltese lives next door that hasn't been fixed either and he has free reign of our street. Meaning... he wanders up and down the street barking at everyone he so wishes to bark at and peeing and pooing on every yard he so wishes to pee and poo on. On several occasions while the kids were out walking April (on her leash) he came over and tried to "introduce" himself to her. Aidan was mortified. I took her to the vet while she was with us because I had a feeling she had an ear infection, which was making her pretty snappy on occasion. I was right. She was also in need of a complete dental workup. The vet suggested we do it at the same time of the spay so that we'd only have to put her under once. This was all sounding really great until she gave me the price estimate... $650.00. Ouchie.

So, needless to say, we decided to give her back to her sweet owners. Fortunately they were not desperate to get rid of her. They were very understanding. The timing was just wrong. If we weren't bringing two new children into our home, maybe we could've taken the chance on her. But there's just too many unknowns coming our way.

I shared all of this in a phone conversation with my BFF Tracy before we gave April back and she started laughing hysterically and even to the point of tears at the thought of Davinci (the annoying Maltese) possibly getting poor April pregnant. Like, that's all we needed... a new pregnant dog and 2 new children. She was like, "Beck! What are you thinking?! Give that dog back quickly and tell them, 'Thanks, we're gonna pass on the dog, but we're sending her back with a little something extra!'". Lol! It was pretty darn funny. Seriously, if you knew us, you'd laugh too. The stories of our dog woes are endless.

So...

Today was an absolutely beautiful fall day here in Florida. The sun was out and the wind was breezy and it wasn't 90 degrees out. THANK YOU LORD!!!

We got the house all ready for the cleaning ladies and then headed out to the back porch to do schoolwork. While in the middle of Math lessons with Aidan, I heard a "meow".

Meet Socks. He's Aidan's newest BFF.

Aidan has such a heart for animals. He has been wanting a cat forever. This one actually belongs to a neighbor, we think. But he hung around our yard ALL DAY LONG. We fed him some tuna, so I'm pretty sure he loves us.

Socks is the most patient and loving cat I have ever known. Seriously, he let Aidan lug him around forever.

He finally gave up the fight to get free and took a nap. So sweet.

Matt says these are the best kinds of pets anyway... Someone elses!

FYI,  it is bedtime and Socks is asleep on our front porch.

I guess this means no schoolwork will get done tomorrow either;)

  1. Great stuff - not real fond of cats - but dogs....well there is a reason that dog spelled backwards is God....only animal on the planet that cares more about you than it does itself! ;)

  2. What a sweet cat. I love cats, but there are too many people who are allergic to them, so we don't have one.

It would be really wonderful if we were in China together. We're still hoping to travel before Christmas, although it's getting a bit tight!
