Our first Science experiment, that was surprisingly easy and effective! Measuring density. Thank you Apologia Science!
I took Alex and Ansley to get their visa pictures taken this week. One more step closer!
And while we were at Walgree*s we checked out the goods. I actually had this exact same "perfume" in middle school! It says: "If you like Georgio, you'll love Primo." It smells terrible.
Trying to keep our little nudist happy while we do schoolwork!
Homeschool P.E.
Free Publix advertising.
Me and my new little nephew; Liam James... 1 week old and at his cousins football game! He was the star of the show!
Al's first home football game of the season. We lost;(
My big boy
Baseball season is back in full swing too. Aidan got sick mid-game and had to sit out. (check out little dude to the right! So typical of 1st graders!)
This was priceless. We had the big zoom lense on the camera, so it's blurry and you can't see it, but they are actually holding hands.
My "plan" all along has been to homeschool Ashlyn for many reasons. # 1 is for bonding purposes. But I am feeling lately like she may be very bored and misplaced at home with us all day long. Maybe it makes more sense to enroll her in the ESL program at the public school. I feel like the sooner we can get her speaking and understanding English, the better off she'll be. I have no idea how to teach anyone English. I also want for her to feel some normalcy. She is used to going to school every day.
If Abby's bonding happens quickly, I will enroll her in Mom's Day Out with Av. There is also a special ed. school down the street. I just want my girls to have the very best start in their new lives with us.
I'm praying through these decisions. We obviously won't know what we're doing for a while. Thankfully, we will be coming home during the holiday's, so it will give us some time to get adjusted and decide what we're doing after Christmas break is over.
We may just bury our heads in the sand for a while and decide next fall:)
I can't believe that September is almost over!
October is next week!
Then comes...
NOVEMBER!!!
I hope that's The Month.
Blessings,
Rebecca
I am cracking up at Primo!!! Oh my word, I got that stuff in a gift exchange only to be told by a pregnant relative that whatever perfume I was wearing was making her reaaaalllly nauseous! lol Gave me just the excuse I needed NOT to wear it!
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth, K'Tyo's ESL tutor is awesome, & it's such a positive part of his education. I had fully intended to homeschool him when he came home, but I quickly discovered that he had a very outgoing personality, & he really enjoyed going to preschool. Since Ashlyn is older, I wonder if you could work out something half-day while she transitions so that she would at least have access to ESL services? My best advice is to trust your gut as to what she's ready for, & as you mentioned, you won't really know until she is home. Have I mentioned that I am super-excited to see that day!? :)
I hope November is the month too! Ashlyn needs to come HOME ;-)

Sounds like you have been busy and thinking through all that is to come. October will fly by...you'd better get to your Christmas shopping 'cause once that paperwork starts to fly, you'll only be thinking of trip preparations!!! LOL! And believe me...you will be making way too many trips to the 'marts once you start packing!! It never fails to amaze me how much we always had to buy for each trip!

We brought Winn, age 9, home in May. He has a repaired cl/cp. We had planned for him to do cyber school with our other two children. However, after being home 4 months, his language skills were going nowhere and we enrolled him in our local PS. He loves it! It was the longest summer of our lives trying to keep the boys from fighting and making us all miserable, but when he went to PS, and the other two went to a different school, it's been a little bit of heaven! Winn loves his new friends and he's learning so much more than I tried teaching him all summer. His language skills won't be good for a long time, but we see baby steps. We're assuming that since his palate wasn't fixed until he was 5, he never learned where to place his tongue and was never given speech in China, so when he wanted to be understood, he played charades. He would still rather go through major hand motions than to try to speak in English (which we can't understand). He's a very happy boy, though, so we're trying to have patience and let him learn at his own rate. Just wanted you to know what our experience has been. You'll figure it out for Ashlyn!
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca, You don't know me, but your husband helped us sell our home back in 2006 and we have a mutual friend Rachelle Kallenbach, and my cousin Jaclyn Whiddon lives in your neighborhood. So lots of little connections. Rachelle had passed your blog along to me just when you had decided, then undecided to adopt your oldest daughter. It was right around the time that we were waiting to bring home our 10 year old daughter from Ethiopia (our third adopted daughter) and I was so disappointed when I read about your decision to not adopt her (at the time). Older child adoption is certainly scary, but it has been the best thing we have ever done. All of our daughters have been a blessing (home at ages 3, 5, and 9). I was thrilled when I came across your post on "no greater joy mamma" saying you had decided to adopt Ashlyn. Your husband had made a comment at our kitchen table back in 2006 that you guys hoped to adopt a couple of kids some day. I had always thought of adoption, but the first time that my husband had mentioned it was after talking to Matt. Crazy that 6 years later we have 3 daughters from Ethiopia and a baby boy on his way--hopefully coming home next month. We have home schooled our girls (something I never thought I'd be doing) and it has indeed been great for bonding. I didn't know anything about teaching them English, but kids are sponges and in a busy loud household (we have 6 kids home right now) they'll pick it up faster than you expect. Matt sent Nick a text today, so I decided to check in on your blog and I'm delighted to see you'll be adding 2 sweet girls to your family! Adoption has been the biggest blessing in our lives and I'm excited for your family as you get close to bringing your girls home. Know that there are lots of ups/downs, grieving/bonding take time and all of the crazy feelings-highs/lows you may experience in the beginning will be well worth the joy of hearing those sweet girls call you mommy. If you don't feel overwhelmed, you probably aren't hearing God's call right? I have never heard God's call so clearly as I have during our adoptions and I LOVE hearing him speak. And I've never needed to depend on him so much as we have during our adoptions. Excited for your family.---and you don't need to post this comment, I couldn't find your email. Oh, and God always provides financially-we've seen it happen over and over again!
