You see these two children on the right and left of Ashlyn? They look older than her, which means if they do not have families preparing to come and get them as I type this, they probably never will. In China, once you reach the age of 14 you are no longer eligible for adoption. Because it takes 12-15 months to complete an adoption, your child needs to be younger than 13 when you begin the adoption process. We will travel sometime next fall. Ashlyn turns 13 in February. God's timing is never late.
I am especially curious about the girl because I have two other group pictures that were sent to me from other families who've adopted from her orphanage and this little girl is right next to Ashlyn in both. In the picture below, Ashlyn is holding a little girl named Meilani who now lives with a sweet family in California. I met her parents on the yahoo group and we keep in touch quite often. Ashlyn's friend is on her right.
Ashlyn is the one with the cute little bun and her friend is in the green jacket. It breaks my heart when I think of the friendship they have shared and how in one short year they will never see each other again. I asked Olivia what she missed the most about her life in China and she said, "my friends". I don't know what happens to the kids that age out. There are many rumors, but I have yet to find a solid answer. I believe they are sent to work in factories if they are not allowed to stay on at the orphanage as a nanny. In China, orphans are considered unlucky so it is very hard for them to find jobs. Many of these kids just end up on the streets. The boy has vision issues. I don't know if he is spoken for, but he's so handsome and looks so kind.
I don't know anything about the girl either. Mary was told that most of the younger children were already spoken for but nothing was said about these older two. I keep looking at their pictures and praying that SOMEHOW they will appear on Rainbow Kids and get scooped up. Will you please say a prayer for that right now as you read this?
