I-800 A Forms & Exchange Students

We have arrived to another stage in this long adoption process; the I-800 A forms. Apparently this is an application that we must fill out and send to the CIS (citizenship and immigration services) in order to be approved to adopt internationally. This process will take 2-3 months. In the meantime, we begin the dossier (pronounced "doss-ee-ay") which is a collection of approximately 13 documents submitted to the CCCWA (Chinese Center for Children's Welfare & Adoption) for permission to adopt a child from China. I hear this is taking around 4 months??? I'm so confused, but what they heck... She'll hopefully be home by Halloween, Lord willing;) Does anybody ever understand all of these steps???

On to some fun news...
Our Chinese exchange students arrive at 11:30 PM tonight. I have to go to the airport to pick them up. We are hosting 2 girls, ages 13 & 14. I've been praying that we are a blessing to them, but also that we will enjoy them as much as we enjoyed our last students. They have quite a busy schedule. They come here for a more hands-on lesson in English, so they actually have classes several days that they are here and a test on the last day. They also get to go on a lot of fun outings. They are going to Epcot, Sea World, the outlet mall, the beach... They have all sorts of things on their schedule. The school they meet at every day is literally a 30 second drive from my kids' school. They get dropped off at 8:30 AM every morning and I pick them up at 5:30 PM most evenings, except for their long amusement park days. They eat breakfast & dinner with us each day and hang out all day with us on Sunday's. I love this because we get to take them to church with us. Please pray that a seed might be sown in their hearts this week.

Blessings,
Rebecca

  1. Morning Rebecca - yeah - I actually 'get' all the steps to the process - but it seems to change every year!! Simply do it this way - rely on your agency and don't hesitate to ask...and while you are at it - stay "dynamic". While we were completing our dossier on our last adoption the Secretary of State in Ky changed - and that rendered my brides birth cert. and our marriage license invalid because they were signed by the 'wrong' person when issued. It was an afternoon's drive to Frankfort to obtain and certify the new docs which were then fedexed to our agency for translation and transmission to China...go with the flow - and remember there will be hiccups during the process - but it will work out!!

Good luck with your students! We've had a wonderful young lady with us for the whole school year from Korea (our first adoption was from there - we 'aged out' of Korea's program) it's been just GREAT!!

    hugs - aus and co.

  2. Ahhh two adopted girls and the seemingly ENDLESS documentation, notaries, Sec of State notaries, and of course the infamous authentification by the Chinese Consulate! I recall making two round trips to Los Angeles (110 miles each way) to the Consulate to inquire on why they rejected my docs in which it turned out to be a Notary error (misspelling!) because they wouldn't respond to phone calls...Grrrr! BUT in the end it was WORTH IT! Mine took 4 months because I busted my rear everyday while working full time. Stand tough and conquer it Rebecca ;-)
